Occupation: 6th Baronet of Westerhall
MP
Comments: John succeeded to his uncle Sir William Johnstone Pulteney’s Westerhall baronetcy upon the latter's death in 1805.
John inherited the Pulteney lands in New York State from his cousin, Henrietta Laura Pulteney upon her death in 1808.
John later left these estates on trust to Ernest Augustus (Duke of Cumberland and later King of Hanover), Charles Herbert Pierrepoint, Masterton Ure, and David Cathcart (Lord Alloway), to sell the American estates as quickly as possible in order to pay encumbrances on his English and Scottish estates.
